A contemporary extension to the Grade II Listed Gothic style Victorian Church to provide additional meeting space.
St Mary & Abanoub Church’s thriving congregation had rapidly expanded, and the existing footprint did not provide the space required. The challenge was to create an extension that met the congregation’s needs in terms of space and which was appropriate to the heritage setting.
Our heritage expertise was utilised to create a sustainable addition that provides much-needed accommodation and to detail the connection carefully and respectfully between the new and existing Listed buildings.
The clean and geometric design of the extension and the use of appropriate materials ensured that the new extension is complementary to the original Victorian building.
The modern extension has architectural merit and integrity and is an unashamedly contemporary addition.
