RBS Architects have recently completed transforming The Cellar Trust’s existing building into an invaluable facility that will enable the charity to expand its specialist mental health support.
The works included a new atrium at the front of the building, the complete refurbishment of the existing building, and the creation of a well-being garden. There are large rooms for groups and events, smaller activity rooms, consulting rooms for clinical and non-clinical interventions as well as a multi-faith and contemplation space.
The landscaped garden creates calm spaces for sanctuary and outside meetings.
The enhanced facility hopes to change people’s lives and RBS has worked closely with The Cellar Trust to create a design which will support a wide range of integrated support services.
The design is intentionally welcoming and not clinical, drawing the local community in to use the facilities and gain access to the support. This support will be delivered by a skilled workforce and a team of volunteers trained in engaging, assessing, motivating, and giving people the tools to improve their health and well-being.
“RBS adopted an enthusiastic and collaborative approach to the project, working closely with the sponsors and project team, including third party consultants, to overcome issues and ensure the best possible concept design. Their ideas were excellent, with a wonderful attention to detail, as well as seeing the bigger picture, working in partnership with all parties to maximise the potential of an existing building.”
