Shibden Park Interpretation Centre

An award-winning Interpretation Centre set within Shibden Park.

The construction of a new Interpretation Centre formed part of the major restoration of Shibden Park to provide an adaptable venue for events, exhibitions and functions and to provide a café and toilet facilities to increase the quality of visitors’ experience.

RBS created a design that focused on quality and the environmental impact of the building, with sustainable design elements including a ground source heat pump, natural ventilation, solar orientation, a green roof and controls to minimise water use.

The result is a modern building which respects the landscape, the dry-stone spine wall frames views within the park, whilst the fully glazed public areas provide prime views of the park.

“RBS have been our architects over the last 10 years and have delivered a number of refurbishment and interiors projects, and an initial feasibility study.  They have worked with us to secure funding and been flexible and helpful, providing consistent personnel over the many years, who have been readily available for informal advice.  They are a pleasure to work with.”
