Grizedale Forest Visitors Centre

  • Client: The Forestry Commission
  • Project type: Leisure
  • Location: Lake District National Park

The creation of a new Visitors Centre in the heart of the Lake District.

With breathtaking views, stunning artwork, endless forest trails, and unique sculptures Grizedale Forest attracts around 200,000 visitors a year and the new state-of-the-art Visitor Centre aims to improve the quality of visitors’ experience.

We worked collaboratively with the Forestry Commission to design a sustainable new visitor facility which blends into the beautiful surroundings by careful selection of natural materials.

The dynamic form of the building with its winged roof provides a sheltered focal point for groups to congregate under.

“RBS worked collaboratively with the Old School Building Company, Hive and Kirkgate Community Centre to understand the clients’ requirements and translated these into an affordable design that was sympathetic to the building’s historic features.”
