This design and build contract was undertaken in three phases to minimise the disruption to the hospital. The project involved converting the existing A&E department and building within the existing adjacent courtyard with new link ward blocks constructed above.

The scheme has separated the children's A&E department from the adults' department. The children's area has been developed with its own theme and has been designed along nautical lines - the children's nurse station is a pirate ship and the waiting area fitted out with masts and treasure chest seats
