Silsden Primary School

Client: Bradford Metropolitan District Council
Contract Value: 12 million

We are delighted that the sports field at Silsden Primary School is now complete, and when the weather improves, will be ready for the pupils to use. This is the last area of the site to be handed over to the school and provides additional outside facilities. Other external facilities include covered play areas, a multi-use games area as well as hard and soft landscaped play areas for the children to enjoy.

Silsden Primary School has been in existence for over 150 years but until recently operated on two sites. The school now occupies a new site nestled into the hill, on the edge of the village, surrounded by rolling fields and has far reaching views across the local countryside.

RBS Architects are proud to have been involved in this new facility, which provides a safe and happy 21st century learning environment. The development has involved working closely with the clients to ensure that the new building provides a lively, stimulating environment which allows its pupils to develop a free spirit and reach their full potential.

The finished design comprises of a two-storey linear solution based around a central light filled ‘Learning Street’.   The high roof allows for stack effect ventilation and the use of bris soleil enables the airy and light feeling to be achieved inside without the building overheating.

In terms of future proofing, the new school currently provides 3 form entry and nursery but is an enhanced facility so that it can be extended to provide an additional 1 form expansion if required in the future.
