2016 Charity of the Year
The Macular Society is our 2016 Charity of the year.
Age-related macular disease (AMD) is the biggest cause of sight loss in the developed world, affecting over 600,000 people in the UK and there are over 70,000 new cases every year.
Macular disease is the most common form of sight loss in the developed world. It has a profound impact on the lives of those with the condition and their families. The number of people with macular disease is growing and as the UK population ages the need to increase efforts to beat the disease has never been greater.
The Macular Society is the only UK national charity dedicated to helping people with the condition. They work both locally and nationally running services such as local support groups and counselling.
Choosing our charities
Every year in December we ask for charity nominations from our staff, of charities they would like to support the following year. Once the nominations are in, each member of staff then votes for their chosen charity.
The Macular Society received the greatest number of votes for 2016.
We will be raising funds for the charity through a series of fundraising activities and events.
